Muriwai’s Inquiry Learning Story

Muriwai’s Inquiry Learning Story When I was starting my inquiry I was choosing my issue and what I was going to show my issue with. My issue was climate change and I was making it with clay. I chose climate change because it will affect everyone in the future and I chose clay because I thought that it will be easier to make shapes.  The first thing I did was to search for climate change so I could learn how it happens and what it could do to everyone. Then I went to write everything I knew about it.  After I asked the teacher if I could get some clay for my inquiry and so I could start working. I drew a plan of what my clay was going to look like before the clay came in and when the clay came I started to make what I wanted but I didn’t end up finishing my inquiry. The key competency I used was managing self because when I was near my friends, I would try to focus on my work and not get distracted. My next step is to take action because ...

Muriwai's Reading Learning Story

Image
Muriwai's Reading Learning Story My book is called Al Capone and it was written by Alan MacDonald and illustrated by Phillip Reeve. My book is nonfiction and I liked my book because it was interesting and it told facts and true stories about what happened ages ago to the main character Al Capone. And I liked that they told about his whole life like when he became famous. Whenever I go to the library and I need to choose a book I look at the chapter books and I always make sure that I read the blurb before I read the book. Reflection When I was reading this book I was good at inferring what was going on in the story and I was good at analyzing and synthesizing by locating important information. My next steps are to find somewhere comfortable to sit where there are no distractions so I can read and I want to be able to evaluate information.

Muriwai’s Maths Learning Story

Image
Muriwai’s Maths Learning Story Manusiu has 20 metres of material to make some tupenu for her family. Each tupenu needs 1.5 metres of material.  How many can she make? In our maths groups, we talked about this problem and my group and I thought that it might have to multiply in it so when we took the the pen we started thinking about how we could solve the maths problem. First, my group wrote 1.5x4=6 then 1.5x5=7.5 and we were trying to find out the answer but it was too slow then I remembered that you can multiply it by 10 to get an answer faster we wrote 1.5x10=15. Then there were 5 metres of material left so we wrote 1.5x3=4.5 and we put 4.5+15=19.5 and the answer was 13 because that was how much tupenu we could make. Reflection I was good at thinking because I was good at recording my ideas that got my group out of the pit and boosted our ideas. I was also good...

Muriwai's Writing Learning Story

Muriwai's Writing Learning Story In my writing, I tried to hook my reader by using interesting words and I tried to make the reader feel like they are there in the moment in time by using present tense and using my hook.  As I’m in the line of boys I look around and see everyone else dancing but me. I hear the music that comes from the drums and the laptop, it makes me feel relaxed, tired and calm. I also feel like I can’t dance because if I get the dance moves wrong then I feel like people are just looking at me because I would not look the same as other people in my polyfest group. I hear the teachers telling me to dance but I don’t feel like dancing, I just want to listen to music. I am sweating because of how hot it is in this library. I hear the voices of everyone singing the song and the happy shouts from the teachers and other people watching. I feel like I have to dance alone and practice before I can even dance in polyfest practice. ...

Muriwai's Digital Technology Learning Story

Muriwai's Digital Technology Learning Story In my digital technology I like to code and follow the steps to make my project. First we went and made a google doodle to make on scratch to say goodbye to Miss Whiting because she was leaving the school. I was thinking of what she liked to do and what she liked to see but I didn’t know anything. So I looked at other peoples google doodles who knew about Miss Whiting better than me and I found out a lot about her that I didn’t know what she liked helped me to make my project to send to her when it was finished. I was good at using the coding tools to make my project for Miss Whiting because I was managing self and relating to others by not giving distractions and not letting others distract me by moving right away from someone. My next steps are to make meaning because I need to make meaning of what my message means to someone else if they do not get it .

Swimming Snapshot of Learning

Image
Swimming Snapshot of Learning I want to share this with you because I want you to know how I got better at swimming. On the first day of swimming, we jumped in the pool and then we had a choice to swim to the far end or we could choose to swim to the flag. I swam to the flag because I didn’t like swimming. On the second day of swimming, we went to the other side of the poo l to put on life jackets after we had to jump into the pool then we held hands to make a circle we also swam while holding each other's life jacket and go back around. The next day we had to swim to the other side and hop out of the poo l because we went up high and we had to dive or jump with our feet first then when all of us jumped in we had to swim to the other side and back again The key competencies I used were participating and contributing because when I didn’t want to swim I did it anyway to improve on swimming and to learn more from the swimming teachers. M...

Pedal Ready

Image
Pedal Ready I want to share this with you because I want you to know-how good, I am at riding a bike. On the first day of pedal ready, we went down to the bottom court to practice our signs. When we learned the arm signs we started to go for rides on the road so we became better. The key competencies I used were thinking because when a car came I was able to use the signs our group learned to tell the driver what I was going to do. My next steps are to participate and contribute because at the start of pedal ready I sometimes wouldn’t join in on the fun games and activities that we were doing.
