Muriwai's Maths Learning Story

Muriwai’s Maths Learning Story

The story in the problem is about percentages and decimals

Rylee wants to find out how many students at Corinna School would like to do an activity involving skateboards and bikes in their lunchtimes. She sends a survey to 205 students
. The survey results come back to her as percentages.
How many students want to do each activity?

Activity
Percentage
Number of students
Bike track
40%
82
Skatepark
60%
123

We have been learning about percentages and decimals and in maths

In maths I wrote a number line then I drew 100 percent and 50
percent and 50 percent was 102.5 I was trying to work out 10
percent to work out 40 and 60 percent I knew 10 percent would be
a decimal I worked out 10 percent and it was 20.5 then the two
answers I got were 82 and 123

When I was figuring out this problem I was taking a risk Listening to
other peoples ideas when I was stuck

The next time I try to solve a problem I will try to share my ideas to
my group and work with people I don’t usually work with and try
to stay focused

I am good at writing what we used on the board and sharing it
with the class and I'm good at fractions and percentages.

I need to work on asking for the pen when I have ideas.
